Gorgeous.  I agree that plowed fields are the absolute best places to make great finds - and easy to dig too.  Things are always working their way up to the top - found a 1796 eight reales sitting right on top of the dirt - and that coin is larger than a silver dollar..

Great find for metal detecting. They made those only for a short period of time. They stopped making them due to the confusion with the seated quarter. I had to buy one for my collection. I also have a 1875 S. It is the most common one, they made over a million of them. However the odds of finding one of them metal detecting has to be very unlikely. This is the first I have heard of. My mother found a 2 cent piece 20yrs ago.

Several year ago, my friend and I were detecting in a plowed field, here in the Midwest, that had been a fairground which closed in 1910. I got a loud signal from a clod of dirt on top of the ground and broke it open. I thought I'd found a seated liberty quarter but, after turning it over, realized that it was an 1875s 20 cent piece. In all of the years that I've detected, I have never seen a 20c piece. It is in great condition. :Smiley :Smiley

Hey Guy's just so yall know  swanie1 last posted here on March 22, 2010, 08:29:44 PM, and this post was done in 2009,

I only say that so no one gets upset that he never answers their post, I do hope the responses would bring them out of hiding though.

and on the other hand , Yes it is one cool coin, and I have never seen another one like it.
