Go Up Go Down

After finding only copies of gold coins I finally found a real one on January 16th of this year. We were hunting one of my old spots and all I could hear for about 45 minutes was iron. My first good signal was a piece of a fruit jar lid. I continued along the top of a bull dozed ridge still hearing iron and got a second decent signal. I dug a good size hole but missed the target. My uniprobe told me it was in the side of the hole.
I dug once more and it sure surprised me when I saw this coin fall into the bottom of the hole!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Congratulations, graytcote!  Your ten dollar goldpiece is a beautiful specimen.  It's very possible that there are more like it in that area.  Just seeing it makes me want to grab my detector and find me one.  It's about to rain here though so I will have to wait it out.  The good news is that the weather is finally cooling here in central Texas, down from 100 degree days to highs in the 80s and 90s so I'll be able to get in some good hunting soon.

Hi findoldstuff.  Yep, you guessed right.  Reading and working in our Bloody Bill Anderson group, trying to keep my mind off of longing to go detecting in 100+ degree temperatures.  Smiley  Write to me and I will explain how to edit your membership in the group to avoid getting every email delivered to your mailbox.  Graytcote has me really excited and anxious to go detecting now with the beautiful gold coin.

Hey Chuck, That was simply an amazing find and in near mint condition as best as I could tell from the image. I have as yet to uncover a gold coin but a friend of mine here found one recently and he's so proud of it he carries it in his wallet wrapped up in tissue and a plastic sleeve.  Smiley
