Personally, I don't think Doc was trusting of anyone.   It is entirely plausible that he found the loot in the Caballos, transported a very small part of it to VP, and then took Ova to VP so that she could be an unwitting collaborative witness to his misdirection.   (i.e. "Yes, it's at Victorio Peak.  I SAW Doc go up the mountain and go in a cave and come back out with a gold bar.  We weren't even any where near the Caballos!  What do you take me for, 'a liar'?")

That way if Ova ran her mouth off to the women in the beauty shop or the grocery store everyone would be looking in the direction Doc wanted them to look rather than where the gold really was.

BA

I ain't accusing anyone of lyin. I have heard and read so many stories about Doc Noss that I am confused.
So you went with Doc Noss to Victorio Peak and he went into a cave and came back with a gold bar.  Now you have my attention.
I am curios as to what year that might have been?
Do you know why he brought out only one bar that day and not many?
It might be that he transported the loot from the Caballos but the more I think about it, the more it seems unlikely. It was a long way across rough terrain and in an old vehicle. Moving all that weight. It is possible though. Hmmmmmm
The mystery continues.

Sorry BernOut, that was me channelling Ova Noss   Wink   ......Doc died before I was born.    Just speculating on why Ova might actually believe the treasure was at Victoria Peak.   And as for why Doc might do that, it wouldn't be the first time someone went to great lengths to make sure their true stash was never found (even if it meant sacrificing small parts of it).

One point that keeps popping up is that the first bar that Doc tried to sale was to Henry Lard a banker in Hot Springs. He told Lard that it had came from the Caballos.
In the Albuquerque Tribune August 10,1973 there is a picture of 3 gold bars that Doc claimed to have found. 2 of the bars look good but the one is fake as it gets you can make out the name LaRue on it did not happen. I am trying to find a good picture of it and will post when I do.
BA has a good point Ova was told little about the treasure and filled in the blanks like her tell about boxs of silver with the SILVER painted on them. First if it was LaRue silver it would be marked Plata plus I don't remember that much timber around to make box's. Maybe Bernt can help me out on that.
Do you know why he brought out only one bar that day and not many?

Thats the question of the day. Like I said many times if there were coins like said why not bring them out.

One easier to transport 2 easier to sale

This piece alludes to an interview with Santiego some months before his death.

El Paso Herald Post Aug 22 1973
Also an interview with F Lee Bailey. Somehow he was fairly convinced it seems.
Seldom, a lot of these accounts from people who supposedly worked with Noss seem to allude to bags, so perhaps he did bring out coins.

Did Ova say much of anything before Doc died?

Which if so leads me to suspect even more that she had no idea where the stuff came from and the Caballos theory continues to be the one to look at.

The military did allow access to them once or twice and they found nothing on Victorio Peak. There had to be some evidence if it was there, and as Bernt has said its been ransacked yet no one ever produced results. Everyone but Doc and Ova all say Caballos.

Ova said they lived at the foot peak for awhile so something was there imo, but how did it get there?

It dose not look like Doc had the time are resources to move any large amount of treasure to the site but how about this:
Someone before 1939 found treasure in the  Caballos and moved a small amount to the peak to recover later but never did. Lots of Docs story are like the story's from 1930's the cave the stacks of bars etc.  And is well know that Doc was a part time TH/Prospector so he had heard or read all these story's. He found a small cache and blow it up for his own ego. Ova knowing little of the truth believed that the treasure was larger then it was. After Docs death she told it the way she believed it.
This answers the questions about the coins there were none. Also why only a few bars were ever seen thats all there were. Don't know just pulling strings now to see what pops up.

Hello All

Seldom you mentioned One point that keeps popping up is that the first bar that Doc tried to sale was to Henry Lard a banker in Hot Springs. He told Lard that it had came from the Caballos.

In what year did Doc tried to sell to Henry lard?

I am beginning to think that perhaps Ova Noss and her later family, friends, supporters, Lawyers and military searches were the results of hearsay and speculation that over time became part of the legend we hear today?

Here is some more alleged documents as is with parts blacked out as they were sent to me. I tend to think these alleged documents have very little value other than giving a few more details of the later events surrounding Victorio peak

But you may find or see some thing of interest that my tired old brain had missed?

Hardluck  Wink

Best I can tell Doc tried to sell Lard a bar in 1939. Later Doc got the rep of trying to sale gold plated bricks so who knows. I think Doc. was 90% con man.
