Hi Lee

What you should do is try to get some charts or some info from the town council on the area go to the museum and try to find out what were the activity in that particular area it was perhaps a town where the farm land is now perhaps there are some ruins close by. Speak with the old folks they all ways have stories to tell and at best of times don't have any one around that's interested so will be more than happy to talk to you. You have to know the history of the place that you are hunting in order to know where to hunt.

Regards Xavier

Thanks Xavier i do usually try to findout what i can. I do know that the roman road from colchester to cambridge is within 1/4 mile from there, Also a few fields away belonging to a different farmer there was a field where loads of roman coins and a piece of jewlery was found few years back. I know im getting near the right area just a matter of time i hope  Grin  Lee    Detecting

The second one could be a pot mend.  The pot might not then have been useable for cooking but it could still be used to store things in.
