What can you tell me about this model that isn't in the on-line manual? Any good? Couldn't afford a 6000 or a 5900. Got it for less than $140 on eBay. Tested it briefly already, it located something in the same spot my 1/DB did and another the 1/DB didn't, didn't have time to dig had to get to work. I think I'm going to enjoy this no matter what.

The 4900 dl pro plus is an excellent machine.  Use it to get used to it.  I've repaired them and out here in the CA desert they are used in the ghost towns & to prospect with.  I know a few old timers that have use newer machines and end up selling the new and going back to the 4900.  Same circuitry as the other ones you were considering.  I'm using one just like it that I hot rodded.  Making some DD coils for it to handle the hot ground.  6.59 Khz is a great frequency to run at.

Autotune,
Thanks for the response. Curiousity has me, What did you do to "hotrod" your 4900 and how much improvement was there. I managed to find a BM256 coil and a 4" coil for mine but with 58 hr. work weeks have not got to use it much and the weather is turning here in Illinois.

Took the machine apart replace all connecting wires with silver core, replaced all electrolytic caps with tantalum precision caps 1% at higher voltages touched all solder pads with high silver content solder (retinned).  Put a new battery together "lithium" type more power longer battery life (regulated system). Boosted the output to bias 500mv & re-calibrated the machine.

Hung a coil of my design and the ground pounder was born.
The 4900 is kicking the butt of all my buddies with 1000+ plus machines.
It was fun & cheap to do.

I'm pretty busy now, but when I get a chance I'll post here the details.
