Hi fellow THunter's

In Namibia

Does anyone kow any good sites to metal detect or look at?

Please advise.

I am in central Namibia in Windhoek. Thus sites surrounding the capital would be preferential.

Thank you for any assistance.

Namibia can't be that different from anywhere else in the world so start with your public library. Learn your country's history in war and peace before 1950 to find the oldest and probably the best stuff. Stay away from modern battlefields without any assistance from the army because of dangerous land mines. Find places where carnivals, traveling circuses and fairs took place. Also, market places, animal racing and sporting events. All of those places regularly turn up good items. Old homes, farms and parks are also good places to try but always get permission.

Keep good notes and records of where you go and what you've found. Since you are a beginner, you'll want to go back to some of them once you have more experience and see how much you missed.

One thiing I enjoy doing is comparing modern maps to old or antique maps to see what was there and no longer is. Old hotels, pubs, factories, liveries and farms are great for relic hunting and some of them are now on public land when they were private in the long ago past.

Good luck and happy hunting.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

That is great feedback, sincerely appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I did take the first advise from Thunting I found and metal detected my backyard. Found old rusted nails (too many), but also one foreign coin (not old).

Thank you for this great site.
