I have posted a report on the search for WWII Nazi treasures in lake Toplitz:

Interesting story. I wonder why they banned diving into the lake for?

I hope not just to stymie treasure hunters.

That's a real shame they banned diving from that area.  Great report.

The lake was used as a naval testing station during the war and there are said to be tons and tons of unexploded ordanance on the bottom. It's also deep, dark, cold and a long way from rescuers in the event that something goes wrong.

I'd love to get a look at what is down there though  Wink  It is said that a number of former SS officers spent years after the war trying to recover small sealed tubes from the depths, the tubes contained details of secret swiss bank accounts used to hide party cash.

Hello Craig,

I haven't heared about the tube story yet. Very interesting. I will need to reserach that.

The latest thing I know is that a local diving instructor by the name of Zauner is still offering "guided" diving trips there while I think that there is a general diving ban now, only with this exception.

From what I've seen they come up with a variety of things such as WWII memoriable, old bottles and other stuff.

No treasures though - but then they might just want to keep their mouth shout and remain silent about it anyway  Smiley

Best wishes,

Christian

Hello Christian

The tube story could be another rumour, but it is reported in a few books. As you know, when it comes to Nazi gold stories, nothing is quite what it seems.

If your friend who runs those diving trips ever comes across any of those Operation Bernhard banknotes, I'd love one for my collection Wink

Fantastic, thank you! Will it be published in English? My German doesn't get far beyond ordering beer (something I really need to rectify). Please let me know what you think of it when you get it!
