Go Up Go Down

Hi i found this about 12 years ago i have only just got back into the hobby and have dug out all my old finds. I have looked onlone and it seems to me that this could be a saxon pin brooch, Still with a bit of silver guilding on it. Am i right or am o compleatly wrong? Also would it be of any value at all? Thanks. Lee

Hi,

johnnn is absolutely right. It?s "jewelery" for a horse harness. As far as i can see it at the pictures it?s made from lead. Could you tell us the weight of it just to be sure.

@seldom
many thanks  Waveing

Then it?s definately made out of lead. On the back you can see the rest of two rivets ( i marked them yellow ) with them it was fastened on the leather of the harness.

The floral ornament is a very common motive and was used over a long period. I would date this find somewhere between the 14 and 16 century. A more exact defination of the age would be pure speculation, in my opinion.

I think it might be a concho made of lead.  I have found some like this even with a leather disk on the back.  Most of mine came from the 1840's to 1906 from working old San Francisco CA mud.
