There's something that all of you seem to be missing here about battlefield graves. Often, you have no idea you are near one until you find one. Sometimes they are hastily made, shallow graves and not little areas marked with white crosses. Until this is clear, this discussion should be moderated in tone and kept civil. Corregidor was one of the fiercest battles in the Pacific involving thousand of soldiers and sailors on both sides.

It was a turning point in the war to defeat the Japanese in the Philippines and everybody here, including our new member, seems willing to treat the entire site with the reverence it deserves. He also described how he pulled a fast one on corrupt security guards who wanted a bribe to look the other way so he could loot the place. It's a sign of his honorable intentions that he refused to be part of such a disgraceful act. He also displays uncommon good sense in trying to return artifacts to families of the soldiers who lost them.

So can we all kindly back off just a bit and simply read what he has to say about a place most of us will never see in person?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I will monitor for a while, until such times as i cool down. far better for me to reply in a constructive manner than one of aggression and hate.

In response to the replies and messages, I thank you for those that did.

On Corregidor there is No graves of any kind, there is various memorial sites to commemorate the fallen. And to actually find any human remains one would have to find a tunnel or similar that has not been opened for the past 60 years or so.

And as for reference i will post a few pics of what has been done by the "scrappers" to give you an idea of just what has, sadly, been done to this remarkable Island with its WWII history.

I bear no malice to no one, to old for that stuff.....

have a good day all

Lan, I'm all for actions that honor the fallen and recognize the trials of those who survived.   And even though I have my opinion as to the aggressor, I appreciate it when tokens can be returned to either the person who lost them or their next of kin on both sides.  Barring that, a museum is a fitting place for the memorabilia.   I still have problems with the way you handled the security guards, but I do applaud your intentions.   I apologize for allowing myself to jump to conclusions rather than asking for clarification.  The only reason for my reaction I can give is the respect I hold for veterans, and especially for combat veterans, and the contempt I feel for people who falsely claim the honor due those persons.

BitburgAggie, thankyou for that reply, i do not assume to be or claim to be one of the brave guys who jumped onto the Island, in fact it would scare the %$# out of me to jump at such a low height.
However, I have been involved with various conflicts around the world, from Iraq to vietnam, so i can understand how some people feel. And bear no malice.

All items we have found have gone to the museum, and one of the main contributors was a ex-marine capt named Danny. He virtually dug up Corregidor by himself.

and now there is a group that wants to re-map the island and locate all there areas that used to be there, or whats left of them, Most are old vets from various units and some even from the 503rd, if you would like a clearer view of what i am saying please look at the following link...
