Sean, these are the sort of stories about the Australian outback that you and any other readers need to avoid.
This is a classic account of someone trying to glorify survival for the sake of the almighty dollar.
Absolute BS!

Have just had a conversion engine fitted to my prospectng utility, will assist tugging my caravan around and should have improved fuel economy.

I'll be powering this engine on diesel only, gas tanks take up too much room and the price of gas won't be far behind diesel in the near future.
Currently diesel is approx AU$1.30/litre.

Cheers
Peter

My plans for Oz got coboshed when my truck puked its transfer case all over the place. I depleted my entire savings fixing my baby  Cry
However, I have started my savings again. So hopefully I can head that direction next January. I may take a short visit to Arizona in March to get out before I go stir crazy from this winter.

Cheers

Sean

Just found the book. The book you were referring to was "Successful Nugget Hunting Vol. 1" by Peter Heydelaar (yes, that is the correct spelling of his name  Smiley )

Cheers

Sean

Hi sean , you'll do ok in OZ just always tell someone were ya going when ever you head bush, and also go with 2 or 3 other vehicles cos if one bites the dust there's always someone at hand, out in the middle the surface tempreture can easily reach 150*f/65*c, and when you do go bush always stick to the exact route that you've told people cause it's no good if people stray and folks the looking for em end up looking in the wrong place , and their biggest mistake is not staying with their vehicle, a 4x4 is alot easier to see from a plane than a person that's for sure/

  Gday Sean
the best time for a west Oz trip is the winter time, your summer. I was going to suggest to buy a vehicle like Xavier. Toyota 4x4 hi ace is supposed to be a good one.
as stated earlier I have family there in Perth an dkeen to get over, I can get a rearly sweet deal come october. But thinking to get there before that date possibly.
I would be keen to buddy up as I think its best also to have a partner when going out bush
especially if you run into trouble. Nightjar maybe able to help with some places of interest
I also have a few ideas, but no time in the field out there so it would be a big learning curb
for me also. Goodluck in Az    Cool

Go Up Go Down

Just this week an experienced truck driver walked away from his vehicle looking for help after he became bogged on the Gunbarrel Hwy, East of WILUNA, West Australia.
He was found dead on the side of the road due to dehydration.
He disregarded the "stay with your vehicle" rule and it cost him his life.
Yes, the time to visit is April through to October.
All the best
Peter
