Go Up Go Down

Only 4 weeks left until my big move to Brisbane Australia. Any recommendations guys?  What to bring, what to watch out for? What metal detecting gear should I buy before coming? What metal detector should I buy before I get there (I have a White's Spectra, but looking to bring an extra machine).

Who has the best metal detecting club in Brisbane.

Beach hunting, Cache hunting and a brand new beginner to gold detecting are my interests.

Michael Welch

G Day Michael, well now ya going somewhere, I lived 100Ks / 60miles north of brisbane around Nambour,Buderim area, thats a great
area to live and you can find Gold from Jimna just north of Brisbane and up around Gympie which is an old gold minnig town
with a heck of alot of gold minning history and it's a straight road from Brisbane and there is still alot of gold to be found,
If you want any more info give me a call coz i got lots of info that might help ya.
Theres lots of places to find gold throught Queensland but those are the closest
hang on i'LL find you the link.

There ya go mate,   Great

Theres all the good gear on that link so get it down ya.

As for metal detectors get ya self the MXT PRO for around Gympie and that should work well there
and don't forget a spare lower shaft and the 6X10 and the 6X4 dd coils and if your budget can stretch
that far the TDI PRO with the AUSSIE coils not the US coils, The Aussie coils are made for Aussie siol conditions
And don't forget that Coiltek who use to make all Minelabs coils are about the best, The TDI PRO will cost
you a 1/4 of what the GPX5000 costs and will serve you well til you hit the big one,
AS you may know the TDI PRO is a Pulse Induction machine and it's got the power you need,
If there is anything else i can help you with just give us a shout

Well, the move has been made and here I am in Brisbane Australia.  Long way from the United States.  Have over a month before my detector arrives though. It's still on the water (I'm assuming it's looking for sunken ships without me).

Attended my first metal detecting meeting here. Nice people, but a lot of talk about gold hunting (prospecting), when I am looking for information on cache hunting.  Small crowd there, maininly because it was raining that night I think.

I miss my detector, but will begin research as much as possible until it arrives. Any Brisbane people who would like to talk metal detecting, let me know.

Michael

Weldone on getting settled over there and I hope you have a great time

There a company called gold search over on the left side but I don't Know any of the QLD dealers,
If you ask Golddigger1950 he may be able to shed some light on the subject as he would be the best man to ask

I buy mine in Midland in Western Australia.

Send me your postal address in PM and I'll send you a great book on ghost towns in Australia. A great starting place for finding caches.

I'll check out Midland.  Before buying a new detector, I prefer handling it first (for weight, balance, etc...) On line orders are okay for price, but you can't beat personal help when purchasing a detector you like.

Yes please, send me any material you might have on Ghost Towns.  My postal address is:

MODERATOR NOTE: Michael, I copied and deleted your address. I would advise you to use PM in the future for your own safety.

Michael, the book will be posted today. I hope it brings you some small amount of pleasure.

Midland is a long way from you. But here's where I go for local treasure hunting things. Love these guys. When I walk in, I expect to see a cracker barrel and wood burning stove surrounded by chairs. It's a wonderful atmosphere and a social gathering place for treasure hunters.

Pick up a copy of Gold, Gem and Treasure magazine at your local news agent. You will find lots of places to shop there. Also, consider a Jack Lang detector from here:

Great prices for a great machine. I've heard nothing but good about all three models.

<<Pick up a copy of Gold, Gem and Treasure magazine at your local news agent>>

Just got my first copy yesturday. Hard to find at the newsagents, so will subscribe. Nice magazine and nice mix of gold and coin detectig info, but a noticable lack of info on cache hunting. I may have to write an article or two on these myself LOL.

Nice site. Well put together. Yes, a long way from me, sorry to say.  Hope they put a few links up to locations in the QLD area someday.

<<Also, consider a Jack Lang detector from here>>

Never heard of these, but will look into them. Currently using a Quatro Pro (at least when it finally gets here from the States. LOL expected to arrive in about 10 days and the wife can't stand me as I wring my hands waiting. Then a buying spree needed to get equipment I forgot, or couldn't bring from the States. (especially sand scoop and Topo maps of areas ..1/25000 if I can find them.. Would be nice if I can find a place that sells Military Topo's), maybe a nice GPS system as well.

Michael

Jack Lang was a metal detector designer who sold his business to Minelab. I suppose he got itchy like many who retire and decided to do it again. Now, he imports his own designs from China, tests them and sells them here at a fraction of what a Minelab would cost. Read the descriptions carefully and decide based on which to buy based on the basic functional design. From all reports, they are very accurately described.

I'll buy one very soon for my wife. They're very light and easy to use.
