Go Up Go Down

Hello I am new 2 detecting and just bought a garrett xl 500 pulse, I am wondering if anyone ever hunts the west bay of galveston if so any pointers on where to start, I have wade fished west bay a lot through the years mainly offatts bayou area and also 8 mile road and sportsman road near stewert road , has anyone ever detected down here if so have you had any decent finds, I am worndering if I should detect these bay areas or just detect on the beach at the seawall like everyone else,
Any tips or pointers on where 2 go would be very helpfull also if anyone has any info or old maps of where the old military forts where located in the past around here would be helpfull too,
I am going tomorrow morning for sure because I am on vacation, if anyone want to tag along and educate me I am also willing to meet other detectors
Thanks in advance
Luke

The end of 8 mile road is so full of scrape iron and re-bar from fill that your detector will go nuts. The big bait camp that was there was wiped out by IKE and left behind 1000's of nails. On sportsman road there are 2 places that were used as scout camps in the 50's and 60's that if you could get the OK would be good but the old guy that owns them want let anyone hunt.

HA HA HA HE$$ yeah thats why we hunt in the fall and winter when when the northers blow the tide way out.
I can't say what place is best, I like to say east beach and Stewart beach are hunt to death and they are but in 08 I dig 19 rings in the water at Stewart beach in 3 hours 7 gold 8 silver and 4 junk so when I say its hunted out I am full of crap. I had my knees operated on in Oct 09 so did not hunt but once that year, and had my sea hunter and 2 other detectors stolen from my shop in March so have done little water hunting this year. Insurance paid me well just have not been in a big hurry to get a new water machine but will and be ready for winter.
As far as the best beach, they all produce from time to time so just get to hunting and keep us updated.

Part of that area is the Padre Island National Seashore which is off limits

I have been at west beach at Sea Isle this week.  The beach here has yielding....Nothing!  I was even starting to wonder if the MD was on the fritz!  This beach is amazingly clean.
I went ot east beach one morning, walked way out by the ship channel and picked up 1.01 in clad, but at least I found something! Any way any day with the MD on the beach is better than a day in the office!
