what you need is for your doctor to write you a prescription for "light" exercise including moderate bending specifically to include metal detecting as long as you don't use a shovel (or you have someone with you) as part of your physical therapy  Wink

The only time I ever felt "hassled" at the beach was when I was down on South Padre with my old Orion Electronics Rocket Stage 2.     I'd parked my car at the north end of the paved road and had then hiked up through the dunes looking for signs of the Singer Ranch or anything else worth detecting and finally figured out that it was starting to get late and I might ought to start making my way back to the car.   Since the sun was making a fairly rapid descent, I figured I'd make my best time if I made my way back along the hardpacked wet-sand right along the gulf.    Kind of glad I did, too......I had a pack of four-legged coyotes shadowing me most of the way back to my car  (good thing I'd picked up a fairly good sized collection of throw-ables, made me feel much more secure...as did knowing I had the water on one side)   Smiley

(of course, I haven't had a whole lot of opportunities to swing a detector at the beach since then)

Howdy,
There has been a few encounters on SPI with the two-legged variety of coyote...hoodlums, and dope dealers.  I would recommend prudence while working the beach/dunes, particularly further north away from the more populated areas.

I have problems here in Southern California. I never go out without my pepper spray and a good dive knife! I have had a few close calls, but I have read about other people who have been severely beaten up and mugged. The economy is in the toilet, corporations are exploiting their workers, and there are a lot of desperate people out there. Be safe, be prepared, and pay attention to your surroundings.

The countries got an attitude problem. To many live for today and will not invest in anything for tomarrow. Most bankrupt business get's there by simple indifference of management.  These young folk tend to want to quit, pocket the cash assetts and walk away. No sweat on their part unlike their parents or grandparents who put sweat equity into their business. I see it all the time on my commercial inspections where a log standing business goes under shortly after soeone inherits it.  Easier to live on the wad of cash they get reather than work..

If we don't change we're going down the tubes...

I was detecting the nude beach at San Onofre under the volley ball net hoping to find some jewelry and got a big hit. I dug down and found a weird piece of alum. when I grabbed it and pulled it out of the sand it was a sand rake. well before I could rebury it some jerk ran over and told me it belonged to the people that play there and that I needed to rebury it now with
a little sarcasms . I handed my detector to my wife and said you asking me or telling me . His attitude changed immediately with an o crap look on his face and said he was asking me. I told him wise decision now leave because I found it and it belongs to me . well he scurried back to his girl friend and would not even look at me. I reburied it anyway out of respect for the volleyball players. I've surfed that beach for over 30 yrs and still do and I'll be danged if some rich jerk is going to tell me crap.

Were you an your wife nude? Didn't that scare him away? I know if I were on a nude beach all of the curious would be coming from miles around to look at the "beached whale"

Naw, we had our clothes on this time  LOL. My biggest problem is that little raft from the Greenpeace ship, It pulls up and all these people jump out and try and roll me back in the water  LOL .

By the way a few years ago on TV I saw my perfect retirement job. Some guy on one of Australia's beaches had a spray rig and he would charge money to spray sunscreen on topless women, that's a dream job, heck I'd pay them LOL .
