Last week are so, some tar ball washed up on east beach that started a bunch of rumors. But A&M checked them out and said they were just the regular tar that we see every spring and summer. Don't think we will have a problem unless we get a storm, then who knows what will happen. Wild caught fish and shrimp prices are going up are we speak due to the fact prime areas are closed. Its a wait and see deal right now bomber.

They found this washed up last week.

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Galveston police have a sharp-eyed citizen to thank for helping them find more than $2 million worth of cocaine
On May 22, a concerned citizen called the Galveston Police Department Narcotics Division after spotting a backpack that had washed ashore on East Beach. Detectives located the backpack on the water's edge just in front of the Beach Town Community on East Beach.

Detectives recovered a black bag which was found to contain 16 bricks believed to be cocaine. The bricks were field tested and police say they tested positive for cocaine.

Based on the condition of the bag, it appeared that the bag had been in the water for some time. Each brick was wrapped in a rubber wrapper, then in a large balloon and then wrapped again in a plastic wrap. Each had identifying markings and bar codes.

According to police, the 16 bricks weighed a total of 37 pounds and two ounces, giving it a street value of approximately $2.1 million.

Detectives are assisting the DEA with their follow up investigation.
