Here is a link to an excellent home study course for anyone interested in learning the basics of hookah diving. Safety is the main focus as it should be. Some great information here!

I think this would be the way to go, price and weight wise as long as it's all open water dives ( no caves or wreck diving ). I'm interested in this type of dive euipment. Thank for the post pistolpete.

No problem hoochie. We built our own system and made a video on utube describing it's construction and components. You can watch it on our website under the photo and video section at

Might be a good way to hunt for shark teeth in W FL

They have some nice, as in 4 to 5", fossilized teeth that bring in several hundred big ones. Only problem they are off the beach a way... Cry

I guess a few hundred $ for a sharks tooth is close enough to some gold. Have you ever tried to recover any of those shark teeth? Would you need a boat to get out to them?

Venice FL calls itself the sharks tooth capital! You can find small teeth (under 1/2" or so) in the surf line. They sell or you can make a "Florida snow shovel" that is made of wire mesh to scoop the wet sand. I prefer to just eyeball.  After a while you get fairly good at it. The little teeth aren't worth much. The larger teeth are off the beach a hundred yards of so. I see a lot of divers suit up and come back with teeth. Of course my thoughts are that the teeth had to come from somewhere even if they are thousands of years old and I stay close to shore  Grin  There are a fair amount of sharks. They catch them at night at the Venice pier.

That's interesting. I agree with you, stay closer to shore. I live in NW Alabama. 1/2 mile form the Tennessee river. No sharks here.
