how deep would you say a safe the size of a slot machine would sink in a fresh water lake(mostly muck)in 4-6 foot of water?

Mostly muck hey, I would say first it depends on where the hard packed bottom is. The best way to find out would be to dig a hole in it. When you hit the hard pan bottom then you know. It could be 2 feet or 10 feet, but more than likely it would depend if there is a tree line near by or it is open area with little trees, no nearby water inlet, or is it spring fed. If there is an inlet near by or tree lined, then it could be quite deep as these areas will leave deposits of decaying matter which turn to muck and if this has gone on for hundreds of years, then 10 feet wouldn't be unlikely. If it is spring fed with little tree line, or just a lake or pond out in the open with grass or sand banks, then it would likely not have very deep muck.

Hell a PI detector should be able to see something that size at 5ft or so.  Wise

One thing to remember is a safe will be air tight on 3 sides. If it lands face down the weight could be significantly less due to the air pocket. I recently had an experience with a small safe that floated down a stream before catching on a grate. The doors tend to be heavier since they are a weak point and contain the lock mechanism. Just a thought.

Good hunting Smiley

Dang, bomber, nickels in a slot machine that's been underwater for about 100 years (I'm guessing a law enforcement raid on an illegal gambling establishment, right?)......I'd sure as heck like to go through THOSE nickels.
