Go Up Go Down

I read this one a few months back, I don't know where, but it has worked well for me:

Adding a strong magnet to your sand scoop helps catch small ferrous targets that might slip through (pins, wires, clips). I've found that it also gets covered with fine ferrous sand, giving an indication of the mineralization of the specific beach.

I use disk drive magnets, which are pretty darn strong:

I've read somewhere recently the magnets in the sand scoop shouldn't be in close contact with the metal detector.
It effects the electronics. What do you experts say?

We're discussing "rare earth" magnets in this thread, which are strong enough to scramble credit cards and hard disks from a few inches away (even though they are used inside of hard disks, it's the orientation and motion that counts). You probably don't want magnetic fields this strong stored next to your coils or detector electronics (or watches!) but other than that it should be OK.
