Does anyone know if you can use a metal detector on Panama City Beach and if so, are there any type of restrictions or rules? Thanks!

I spent last January and February on Panama City Beach near the new pier that is under construction. I wasn't into detecting yet but did talk to a couple that was detecting the beach in front of my motel. The beach is public and I don't think their are any restrictions on detecting. You also might want to try Crooked Island Beach. It is located just of the Tyndall AFB East boundary. If you get to Mexico beach you went to far. My wife and I left PCB for the Ft. Myers area and found a retirement getaway. We will miss PCB this coming winter but I just purchased a White's Beach Hunter 300 and I'll be hitting the Southwest Florida beaches this coming winter.

Hi there,
can anyone here tell me what is the deal with Panama City Beach and public beaches as a whole. Do you need a permission for using your detector? I have never been hunting on the beach and I really want to try it. Thanks!

There is nothing in the ordinances of the city of Panama City that prevents or regulates the use of metal detectors on the beach.  As long as you are not in a National Sea Shore and you are ON the beach (opposed to diving) you aren't going to run afoul of the feds unless you find a way to violate ARPA (which you won't do if you're hunting modern coins and lost jewelry Smiley ).  I also doubt if you'll be violating any Florida state laws since metal detecting is expressly permitted (with permit) on the beaches of many Florida State Parks.

And just in case you aren't in Palm Beach per se, this link will take you to the city ordinances of neighboring communities:

I'd start with the Parks and Recreation section of each.
