I really hate pointed someone to another forum, but this link will show you how one person built a closed housing for his Garrett Ace 250

yes, to dive any real depth you really need to get a detector that is designed for diving such as a Garrett Sea Hunter or Whites Surf PI or Fisher 1280x or CX-21 or a Minelab Excalibur.   They are more expensive, but they are built for the environment.   It's that or do a lot of modifications.  You might try posting a question about building a suitable waterproof housing on our Tech Talk board.   Someone there may have done it already---if not for the Ace 250, then for a similar detector.

I seen that post.

Sure a lot of work to make something that would only work marginally in Fresh water only.

You might be able to pick up a used detector built for underwater use at an affordable price. Remember trying to use a detector in a way it's not built to be used might cause you to lose or miss your find of a lifetime. A good underwater detector can pay for itself (with a little luck here and there ). That's the route I would recommend. Good luck w/ your detecting

Have you thought about how you are going to keep the water out?

I am still figuring out solutions...for circuit board, i will probably fill it totaly with epoxy or similar, also the coil will be covered with epoxy, so it is impossible for water to get in, the only way is through cables, but also that i will solve somehow. What is giving me issues is how to protect potentiometer against water. In worst case ill just mount it in a way so its easily replaced (electro corosion etc.)-easy to replace...

Even using o-rings could do it, but how to make housing around potentiometer then...hmmm hehehe

ill let u know when i find the proper solution, and ure welcome with your ideas or maybe good solutions?
thank you!

you might get away with aquaseal and neck type mount to limit water contac to the minimum. Pi would be great for wet sand and shallow water detecting. Remember pi machines love iron so forget about fresh water use ,they really shine in salt water . If you are planning to hunt fresh water go w/ vlf design. --- Herb Pi
