I am in Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, with relatives.   Since I've been here I've purchased a nice PI detector for the beaches.
I'm heading back to the Houston area in a week or so, and wondered how the detecting is around Surfside beach and other beaches around that area.
Any information is definitely appreciated!!!!!

Also a good place to get a sand scoop without it costing an arm and leg would be nice, I'm shipping my detector back home but not the scoop.

Deadeye,  I won't be much help since I live in Aridzona, but I did spend a week on the beach in Surfside pre-Katrina.   That was back before I got back into metal detecting, so I didn't have a detector and can't tell you how the hunting is.   However, I can tell you Surfside is NOT Honolulu.   It's a good base for exploring places like Galveston.   On the other hand there's been a lot of activity and a lot of wrecks over the years in the waters in that area.  (And Galveston was a prime smuggling port for generations)  Who knows what gets washed up.

Pack the scoop in your luggage. Fill it with underwear and socks and you don't have to buy a new one.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I left the scoop in Hawaii for the next time I'm out there.  With the airlines charging for any bag over 50 pounds, putting the scoop in the bag would cost almost as much as shipping it.
