Go Up Go Down

My friend and I have been using Keene Coin Dredges for a number of years to suck up coins and jewelry from the bottom of fresh water lakes in the Midwest. Here is a picture of a 1.10ct diamond that was in a 14kt gold Masonic ring that was buried in about 4' of sand in an old beach that had been closed to swimming for years.  I had it melted down and made into another ring as I am not a Mason.

Nice find. What are you going to do with the diamond or did you put it in the other ring you had made?

The diamond is definately a great find. Congratulations!

Why do you think it is a Masonic ring? I can't see any of their symbols displayed on the ring.

Regards,

Christian

When I found it, the diamond was set in a white gold eagle on top of a 32nd degree Mason ring.  I had the diamond removed and a new ring made from a mold by a jeweler in my city.

Have you ever had any problems with someone trying to run you off from doing this in a lake?

No, we have never been chased off because we don't go into lakes where we don't have permission from the communities.
However, in the last few years, it has become increasingly difficult to gain permission from community administrators due to new admin. members, insurance rules, etc.  We have had some tell us that, because they don't allow wading, swimming, etc., it would make it difficult if they let us go in.  There have been some "dream" places that have rejected our requests.  We, still, have a couple of lakes that we can get into.

Sorry that you are not able to get into some places. I know here in New England, they are usually against it. Had a couple friends that tried it and were stopped fast. Thanks for the quick reply and good luck. John

By the way, that jeweler probably told you he cast the ring, but settings without stones can be bought at any time from jewelry supply sources.

I watched him melt it down and re-cast a new ring using molded wax and the lost wax molding process.
