I am interested in these two surf detectors. Does anyone know which one would be better for depth and the ability to detect small gold rings and jewelry in surf and on the beach. I would appreciate an explanation on why which one is best.     Thank You Chewy.

Too many variables apply to your questions. These simply cannot be answered in the form of a best/worst scenario.

From your question, nothing can be determined about the amount of sand particulates, salinity and other factors that affect the performance of the machines. As you can see, I have a Garrett and would recommend the PI version to you without reservation. But that's not fair to the White's machine because I don't own one.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

The Sea Hunter is a single tone PI machine and you more or less dig everything.  I don't know about the other one.

I own a Whites Surfmaster dual field PI and I can say it is an awsome machine in fact the best machine I have ever owned,I dont know if there is a deeper machine for the surf ,and without a word of excageration it goes deep and you definitely need a large scoop for the job...mine works flawlessly and the batteries last a long time.

I own both of these models and they both do a good job and each has it's advantages over the other but I favour the Dual Field for the following reasons. I find the White's does not false as much as the Sea Hunter especially when shallow water detecting and the surf is washing over the control box. I hunt the fresh water and find this problem and assume it is the same for salt water. Next, I find the Dual Field to be a much deeper seeking machine. I have not owned a deeper machine than the Dual Field but in all fairness I have not owned every machine out there either. The Dual Field I find to be lighter and when mounted on your hip or on a straight shaft, is easier to use for a longer length of time. The pulse delay can be adjusted to about 10 micro seconds which is better for the smaller gold earings with the White's. Where the Sea hunter shines is the fact that you can change coil sizes and use a 10 x 14 for deeper/more coverage per sweep. Also, it has removable headphones for travel/ more compactness. I like Garrett's arrangement for changing batteries better than the White's. You simply unscrew the large plastic nut and pull out the battery pack to change alkalines. The Dual Field is a little more difficult and proper seal placement is crucial with a battery change. Both units are backed by excellent customer service.

I have made my mind up to get the Sea Hunter because of the extra coil and changable headphones, i have heard that the Sea Hunter is deeper with the bigger coil, anyway i dont want to dig to deep and also i have heard that the Dual Fields control box is a little brittle but ?
Anyway Sea Hunter it is.

the Dual Field has great depth and gives you a lot of versatility in that it adjusts for different conditons.  It also has great audio and you can hear a lot of the caps and other junk.

After thinking very hard about it for a while i have decided that when the money is available i will get a Garrett Infinium LS , it looks much like a Sea Hunter but is better and has a bigger coil fitted and has different tones for iron and non ferous targets.
Would have bought the Sea Hunter but i want it for land too.
