I recently purchased a White's Surf Pro PI. I wanted to extend my hunting farther into the surf. I'm finding a lot of junk not much treasure?  I do fine with my MXT in dry sand. Can anyone give me some tips?  Hello

Dano, you are going to dig a lot of junk with the pi machine. That is the nature of the machine. All you can do is not dig large or broken targets.
I have six underwater detectors, all but one are pi's. Including the White Dual Field with a 12 inch coil. You know I only take that where the targets are deep and I or some one else has cleaned the surface targets. I hunt fresh water only and you will get a lot of hunters saying do not use a pi in fresh water. Dig the whispers, many times they will instantly disappear, being surface detritus, such as very small iron, but often enough they are good, deep targets. Hang in and keep digging.

Seeker,

Thanks for the response and tips. It looks like I will be digging a lot of junk, but hopefully will be rewarded with some nice finds . You have 6 underwater detectors which one is your favorite? Can any of yours be setup to elimnate some of the junk?   Detecting

Dano, I recently purchased a used Tesoro TigerShark. As soon as I unpacked it, I took it to the UPS store and sent it to the factory in Arizona to be checked out. Got a call from Jim Gifford saying the reason I was having problems was a cracked face plate. Told him I wasn't having problems since I had not used it, yet. They cleaned it up and checked it out and replaced the face plate, forty dollars. What a bargain. Any way, that is the only water machine I have that can discriminate and I haven't used it, yet. When the weather and water warm up a little, I will be trying it out. I have three White's Surf machines. My favorite for all around is the PI Pro. Also have the Surf PI by White's which I really like because it makes a sound like the old BFO machines which makes it easy to hear with your wet suit hood on. Have the White's Dual Field which is a deep running machine and have only used it about three times. Like it, tho. Have a Tesoro SandShark, which I purchased a seven inch coil  for and that helps in areas with lots of nails. Have a Fisher Impulse I don't use at all. Good machine, going to sell it. Need to thin the herd a little. Also have four ground machines. Find a spot with some old stuff that you know is there, and start to clean it out. Perhaps an old swimming beach on fresh water or a nice cut on the salt beach. Put in your time and it'll come to you.

Seeker,

Thanks, I will start putting the time when the weather warms up.   Let me know how your Tiger Shark works.

Hello Dano,

the problem is that the PI will pick up ALL metals. Hence I recommend a VLF machine for the surf. My detector of choice is the Fisher CZ-20.

Best wishes,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Thanks for the info. How long have you been using CZ-20? I will read up on the CZ-20.
