         Hello  and welcome,

I would check local laws as to the rules to public beach restrictions. You just never know. I don't live near the ocean more towards the great lakes. Take for instance the Cleveland Metroparks, You can only hunt with a permit (free) and you are NOT allowed to dig. But you may hunt the beaches in off season.

As fo the detector some react differently around salty wet sand. My suggestion would be to take the advise of the others on this forum who actually hunt salt beaches..but also give the fine folks at Kellyco.com a look and phone call and explain your needs...light weight, price range, soil conditions....the are always happy to help and sell diffrent brands..

Hello and welcome! You could look into the ACE250 as a beginners machine. You should be doing fine hunting beaches in the UK. Being in teh UK could you also look into a XP ADX metal detector. Many good machines are sold on ebay.co.uk preowned. Best wishes and happy hunting, Christian

Welcome sistasunflower,

Take a look on eBay like Christian says, I'm sure you can find some secondhand good detector.

Good luck for the next

Luc

I found this website when I was asking the same question.  You might look at it and see if it helps.  The questions it asks of your hunting style really help with determining what kind of detector to get.  Their prices on machines are also the lowest I have found.  Here is the link:
