How much do you want to spend? You can get a new one for a good price these days and they come with a good warranty. Check on E-bay for used ones , you may find one there. Good Luck, and welcome from Pa.,.....DW
Ebay is alright, as well as used, you can buy new there too. with warrenty. Tesoro new, lifetime warrenty, 160.00.  As metioned above, Craigslist and even here on this site as there is an action with new pin pointer taking place as we speak...

Many good places to find a detector have already been mentioned.  In the last year I have purchased two used detectors on E-bay, both work really well.  One came with the original manual and the other didn't.  I got a copy of the missing manual from East Texas Metal Detectors run by Keith Wills.  He also has used detector but they aren't listed on his website (

).  You have to phone him and that number is also on his website.  He repairs and thoroughly goes through and repairs each detector he sells.  I highly recommend him.  The manuals sell for about $5.  Check him out.  You can also find detectors (new) on amazon.com.

You can sometimes find used detectors in good shape at yard/garage sales. Price can be good as people don't know the value of detectors. Check online garage sale listings.

Also, try Craigslist.com for your area - negotiate a good price and try before you buy.

Yard Sales are good around here , but on Craigslist folks want brand new prices for their beat up old machines.
Some Folks actually want more for their used machines than the current sale prices on New Ones !!

For a bargain I'll put another vote in for Craigslist. Just bookmark a search for metal detectors on your local Craigslist and check it often. You get to test it out before you buy it and meet a fellow detectorist in your area that may be eager to help out a newbie.

Don't be afraid to tell the managers of your local Thrift store what your looking for, some will take your name and phone number and call you when one comes in.

Your competing with to many people on eBay and most of them know what the detector is worth. One trick is to do a broader search, like metal detectors. Now this will come up with a huge list to search through, but it may produce a bargain in the way of a misspelled brand name. Most people search by brand name and if it's misspelled many people won't see it and you may end up with a bargain.

Miles

Craigslist for used...as you can deal with the seller in person and make sure the machine works.  Pawn shops are a rip off!!

Best of all is to have the knowledge of how to deal with dealers and just buy a new one.  Its very easy to save over $100 on the price everyone advertises on a very popular $600 detector for instance.  I got my V3i for $300 under the price a dealer will quote you.

ebay is fine IF you check out the seller AND IF you know what you are looking for and at and IF you avoid bidding wars.  Most of my detectors were purchased used off of e-bay.
