Go Up Go Down

There's an old part of town where they are doing some construction, and getting ready to tear down some homes that the city has condemned. So, my question here is where's the best spot to m/d for old coins? The front of the yards, the back? Also, next to these old houses is a river walkway area that they also scraped with heavy equipment, I wasn't sure whether to hunt that area first then hit the old houses, or the houses first?
NOTE: One of the problems I found around the houses, just from an hour of m/d there a week ago is that there are tons of nails/scrap junk from them tearing off part of the roof(s) or other building parts. So, if I were to hunt around the houses, I'd have to go through a ton of junk first.

Any advice on this is appreciated.
Thanks

Why you don't use iron discrimination? Noble metals usually have different sphere of sounds.

I'd go along the property edges near sidewalks first myself - if there are any. Sue

I'm using the old Whites classic SL II, which has no LCD display (at all) and no discriminations between anything metal at all.  Sad

Yes, there is a sidewalk there, so I can go do that.

I just said sidewalks because I was detecting in a similar situation where city condemned old houses to make a parking lot near downtown. Maybe the sidewalks at your spot might not have had as much foot traffic over the years though. Nearly all the nice old coins were from along the sidewalks as, nearer the house, I bogged down with roofing nails and other trash. Time was limited and, after I started sidewalking, I wished I'd have concentrated there instead of around the house initially. I did find some coins under trees, too. Sue

If time is short, here would be my priorities:
1)  The area between the sidewalk and the street
2)  Any well-worn paths from the driveway, street, or outbuildings (garage, woodshed, etc) to the house
3)  under the clothesline if I had anyway to figure that one out (I might even move that to number 2)
4)  under trees that would have been large enough for a treehouse or a swing or a picnic table or a couple of lawn chairs (along the edge of the patio if there is one)
5)  under exterior stairs and/or porches
6)  any other place that looks like a place you and your friends and family would be likely to gather if you were living there (extra points if it looks like a place where someone would have reason to reach into their pockets on a regular basis or where they might be doing something that would permit coins to come out of their pockets without notice--the reason for the swings and lawn chair areas)

Been there for an hour this morning, and nothing! Sad  Just lots of junk/nails, etc.
So, left that area then went to my usual park that I like to hit, got 4 pennies and a clad dime Smiley
