Anyone have any experience with a Bounty Hunter "Fortune Hunter"? I am looking for my first metal detector for coins, jewelry and relic hunting. Big 5 has this one for $139 and says it retails for $249. I would like to hear from someone that has used one of these.
Thanks

Bounty Hunter are a fair MD but if you can add a few bucks and get maybe a Garrett ground hog You will be happier in the long run. I have a couple of BH I got here or there and do use them from time to time

Bounty Hunter is made by First Texas Product they also build Fisher and Teknetics. You might want to compare if you find one close to what your looking for. I would go with the Fisher line over the BH.

Hello

This unit is a clone of the BH Lonestar, which I have been using for 6 years.

Not bad, better with the 10" coil, but there are indeed better choices.

Tesoroes for instance (Compadre or Silver sabre) will do far better, even if-or should I say "especially because" -they do not have digital ID.

Thanks for the great suggestions. Beachcomber makes a point that I want to ask about; that being digital ID.

Are the digital id screens just fluff or does anyone find that feature useful?

mont I have no use for the digital ID never look at it could care less. I dig by tone. I 'm sure some people use the digital ID and find it useful but I started in 1970 so am old school can't learn no new tricks.
I am interested in if others use it and their input on it.

I run an E-Trac which gives me a screen readout of the conductivity and ferrous content of an object. These numbers are nice, but I use my ears to make my choice of dig or not to dig. I carry 2 machines with me when I go detecting a Fisher F2 and my E-Trac. These 2 detectors are at the opposite end of the price range. I am a metal detector dealer so I get to play with a lot of machines and these 2 were what I felt most comfortable with. I always tell my customers to buy thier second metal detector first. Most people buy what they have settled for or what they could afford at that time and then show up in a month or so wanting to trade it in on something better. Try every detector you can and see what you feel comfortable with.  Detecting

Hi !

If you're on coin hunting, you coud indeed benefit from an ID meter. And a low(er than 1OKHz) frequency detector.

But a meter, when used in other tasks tran coin hunting, will make you lazy.

At a certain point, when it shows "FOIL" or "PULL TAB", even through Explotracs ferrous/conductive charts, you will think : "bah, another chewing gum wrapper" and won't dig, missing the find of a detectorist's lifetime !

That being said, the most accurate ID meters I've used are those from Minelab Quattro/Safari. The models up are "pixel-jumpy" (but are fantastic detectors too).

Bounty Hunter - Fortune Hunter

Clapp I am purchasing the Fortune Hunter today at Big 5. Same price, $139. Will let you know how it works for me. I fully intend to upgrade in the near future, this will be my 1st "real" detector. I had a Radio Shack back in the early 80's., pretty much just a toy. Exhausted
