Cemetaries are consecrated ground be carefull you could be in trouble with the law especially in deeply religious communities if you get caught.  Oh, dont detect at night hehehe you may have uninvited guests that you disturbed too hmmm wouldnt that give you the heebie jeebies lol. Nothing worse than having a heart attack while your doing your bit lol maybe you get a free burial too hehehe

Tigrock

Cemeteries in Texas are a big no no. Besides city laws the state has several laws on the books.

I believe most (if not all) states have laws against digging in cemetaries, and it sounds like bad mojo to me.

I always thought- that is surely where an outlaw would bury his ammo, weapons,or treasures. However, there are too many reasons not to desecrate graves or hallowed grounds. We got away with it while overseas looking for caches of ammo, etc, from orders from Commanders. Kinfolk can really get P.O.ed and like most of the others believe......it is against the State and Local Laws.

This subject has come up a few times....The consensus has always been stay out of the cemeteries.   (leave them to the authorities and their hired archaeologists).....besides in most states, you're going to have more trouble than you want if you dig up a body in the field.....why go asking for trouble?

On the other hand, if I'm in a cemetery and I'm checking out headstones for leads and I just happen to see something shiny sticking up out of the grass, it isn't likely that I'll ignore it.

There are so many places to hunt it would not be worth it to be arrested or by doing that give metal detectorists a bad name. Chewy.

Of course, if I was 99.99% sure that I had the exact location down to the specific plot where a cache of the type IronHorse and Jamjars are talking about AND IF I had  the documentation to support my conclusions, I MIGHT seriously consider getting the necessary permission to legally excavate that specific plot......Of course, if you  went that route, you'd be very much in the limelight, and you'd probably also wind up with a minority share of anything that might be recovered.......other than that I'd stear clear of any cemetery unless I was working it under the direction of a professional archaeologist as part of a legitimate archaeological study.
