Hi everyone!  I am new at metal detecting.  I bought my first metal detector, a Minelab Excalibur which I love, in July.  I was getting alot of looks Shocked by people at the beach (Sebastian) while I was in the water with my detector. A few days later
an aquaintance said to me that detecting wasn't allowed in the waters in Florida.  Can anyone tell me if the same goes for the river???  I am a newbie, so please be patient  Wink .

Welcome from Perth in Australia.

Florida laws are about governing the huge number of shipwrecks in the sea. Licensing is required to search a wreck and the license holders control who can and cannot enter the water with a detector. I don't know this for absolute certainty but others here who are familiar with the laws there tell me that you can detect from the waterline to the dunes and no more. Landlocked water and fresh water lakes are all right but watch out for the gators and snakes.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Golddigger. I was in Perth in 1983 when my Aircraft Carrier the USS Carl Vinson pulled in (well we stayed out alittle) Ferried in. I met some amazing friendly people there and one Bird that I remember well.

Cry I just read on here that you can't hunt the waters on florida coast with out a permint but you can hunt from the waters edge back up on the beach is this right, do thay thank you will find a ship wreck in knee deep water, that sound like a hell of a deal someone gets a permint a 100 or 200 miles off shore then you can hunt in the water on the beach, the thing i'm saying is if it was me,you or them no one is ever going to get all of it down to the last coin just a thought

Thanks for your replies  Smiley  .   I will try the river banks.  In the meantime, I will detect on the low tide line and not get in the water with my detector.
Thank you,
