There is a pretty simple rule to follow when looking for places to search. Discover where people congregated with their minds on something else. Battle fields certainly qualify. So do fairgrounds, places where tent revivals were held, and parks with trees that tempt folks to lie in the shade. The list really is endless of places that can be target-rich environments. Given those qualifications, I'd guess that the fire roads may mean a lot of looking for very little finding. But I could be wrong because I'm not looking at those roads. How old are they? Any campsites or obvious marshalling points? See what I mean? The carriage road sounds more interesting because of the possibility of metal harness or coach pieces being lost. Try to see how it must have looked back when the road was in use. Are/Were there springs? Horses and people need water. Are there stumps that indicate where there used to be big trees? Walk it and search the promising places. Then, if the promising places yield treasures and if you have time, search the less promising places.
