no it's ok, i'm not on day release  Wink

went down to the local beach since the sun was out andthe weather is starting to warm up.
felt very self concious to start with since i've never seen anyone else around these parts with a metal detector.
but had some fun experimenting with it (cheapy chinese thing). not what you'd call a sensative machine, although i did plant a coin and try different settings to see what picked it up the best.
oh and i did get 4 actual finds!!!

3 rusty nails and a little piece of aluminium foil LOL!!

Hi

That remembers me of my first outings with the Micronta 4003, 25 years ago.

There was more fun than finds.

But finds will come, don't worry about that.

Hay JJ,

I am a old fool.

I do not care what they think any more.

But, I can remember many times I have felt
self concious about being out somewhere that
I was not used to.

If you are friendly when you meet folks, even
if they run you off, they will probably be nice
about it.

But, if you tresspass or be where you are not
supposed to be, then you have cause to worry.
Just do not do that and you will be alright 99.9%
of tha time.

The finds will come. You get out of it what you
put into it, and sometimes you get a real nice
supprise. Cool

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

thanks Tabdog,
had a look but no joy, seems my unit is an older model. It's a VLF 51d.
i put a thread in Metal Detectors for info as it seemsto be better suited
to my request. I have all the parts for it but some wires are disconnected
and the control box and PCB are dismantled.

thanks for the links though,

JJ

Hay Darrell,

Welcome to the forum.

I suggest a lower cost starter machine
like the Ace 250.

The high priced machines can intemidate
new users. They should be aquired after
one has enough experience to know what
features you will employ best. The wrong
expensive machine will be just as useless
as the wrong cheep ones.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

hi darrell, tabdog is right about what he said more expensive doesn't mean more finds, i started detecting with a secondhand sovereign ( minelab ) and after a few weeks realised its all about getting your ears tuned in to your detector , once you break through that barrier you run on automatic and the finds come a lot  easier , some days you draw  a blank but you just accept that, enjoy the hobby.  thorin Smiley
