Garret Master Hunter ADS III
« on: November 07, 2010, 04:39:47 pm »
Go Up Go Down

Hello all, I am relatively new to Md'ing, and I bought a Garrett Master Hunter ADS 3, recentlly (my first real MD), this detector was never used apparently as it looks brand new, it came with a 8" and 12" deepseeker coils, arm support and 9v battery tray, it does not however have the plug for the tray to recharger NiCad 9v's so I just use the disposable for now. I will get a seperate charger to use rechargeables in the future, if I can't find a plug somewhere. I was just wondering if any "oldtimers" out there who are experienced with this particular MD. had any advice on how to use it, I have the original instruction manual, as well as the one from the Garrett website. But I know there are little tricks that probablly are not in the manual. Does this detector have motion detection, and what mode (VLF/TR) does that work in? How and when should I use TR mode? will this detector find gold nuggets? What does gold sound like ( foil/nickle/coins/...)? That sort of thing. I have heard that these detectors comete nicely against more modern detectors. So far i believe I have GD figured out on this thing. I try to recheck it every 1/2 hr or so. So far I have found about $10 in coins, lots of bottle caps and trash,  a few keys, no jewelry yet, but I've only been out with it twice. I paid $100 for this machine and am quite pleased with it so far. And from what I have read, anyone who has gotten rid of there older Garretts, ends up regretting that decision later.

Welcome again.

I still have a Garrett ADS.

Running at 5.5 Khz there not the best Gold Nugget machines but I have  a found 1/2 gram nugget with it.

Your Garrett is a NONE MOTION machine.

TR is the best on Salty Wet Sands, LOL not to much of that around here.

I all but never use the TR because I hate the Keeping the coil at one level thing.

I would rather Dig it all.

Your going to find using the 12 coil sorta like swinging a red brick on a stick.

If you mount  it Backwards it take a bit of weight off the shaft.

I need a new coil for mine.   Damn Mice chomped the cable and housing up.

Look up Reverse Discrimination!

That machine can do things the New ones can't!

If you ever find a Snipper Coil for it, Snatch it up!

, they claim to be the largest "boneyard" of old metal detectors. they might have one that fits your ADS, and they may have the MPS-u45 transistor you need for your S3. hope it helps oh and ebay has alisting for a deepseeker 11" coil starting bid $9.99
