Some would say do your research
Thats what I am doing,I am asking the people who know[You guys]

Were gold coins ever minted and put into circulation in the US?
If so what was the time frame they were minted?
Where would one start their search in the quest to finding one of these coins?

I get so excited finding a silver coin.Could not imagine finding a gold one!!!!!
I Know the odds of finding a gold coin is slim to nun but at at least having some idea of where to start looking I am sure would increase my odds of finding one of them someday.

All your help is greatly appreciated.

Yes. Gold coinage has been minted in the US since 1796, beginning with the Capped Bust quarter. Those are probably considered rare for they were minted in the 1000s quantities. There were also half dollars, dollars, and three and four dollars coins.

Yes, gold coins were in circulation in the U.S.Where to find them? I've read they have been found in San Francisco in a vacant lot and had probably been there since the devasting earthquake early 1900. They have also been found metal detecting in Monterey,Ca. I've been doing research in my area where Wells Fargo robberies from the late 1800's, early 1900's netted $20,000 in gold coins have not been found, one is just above the San Marcos pass in Santa Barbara the other Santa Suzanna Mountains, Simi Valley.....I'll be in the field soon in Simi following up on a tip from an unexpected encounter while beach hunting.
