Go Up Go Down

Got my newbie detector staring at me, it really wants me to take it for a walk (Discovery 2200).  I've read up a little on techniques and such, figger to get some headgear.  My question for the ESTEEMED panel is:  What specs are important to consider when choosing headphones?  Any specific recommendations on brand or model?  I'd prefer to stay under $100US, unless there was a compelling reason to go higher.  I suspect I'll be moving to a better detector soon, I'd prefer to buy "better" headphones now.

I prefer large puffy headphones that block outside noises. There are many who don't like that but I want that silence except for what I am searching for. Second, my headphones are always permanent magnet types rather than inductance only. I prefer those with rare earth magnets for the best possible clarity. Most of the Sony, Sennhauser and JVC full headphones will be on my list.

If for some reason I need to hear the outside noises better, I slip one earpiece off a bit and can hear just fine.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
