Welcome!  Most of what I read about FLA says that anwhere around known wreck sites, like the 1715 plate fleet wrecks, the state has sold salvage rights to the big salvage companies, like Odessey.  In those areas, you are strickly forbidden to take a metal detector into the water, even ankle-deep!  You can search from the water line to the "toe of the dune," which means they don't want you digging up the sand dunes where there's plants and nesting areas.  Florida strickly enforces these rules, and will go after protecting those salvage rights.  But the rules are different in different areas, so you need to check with each county individually.  You can ask the lifeguard, if there is one, or call the city parks department.  Find out the laws ahead of time, or you may end up with some very expensive regrets! Hi From Central Florida, (where those gators play those silly games with all kinds of balls.)  This is a really good site.  I have been doing my research here, and from what I have found out, you cannot MD on Historical sites here in my city, but beaches and public lakes are OK. Always get permission from the owners/Realtors when finding a vacant lot where a house has been moved.  I always look up tax records and either send the owner a note or call the Realtor who has the property listed.

So far I have had no problems at the City Parks.  I have even waved at our police when they drive by and they wave back.

Hope this helps.

Look forward to hearing about your finds.

SharenH
