ok lesson #2 -- whhat is discrimation ? basically your telling you machine to "ignore" certain signals --- now that would be great except for 1 thing --- some metals have very very similar conductivity levels --which is how metal detectors "sort" things out as to what is what --- for exsample --tiny 10 k gold kiddie rings often ring up as foil -- womens small rings often ring up as pulltabs and mens rings often come in as nickles . -- over discrimate and you will not find gold since you "filtered it out"
now using a bounty hunter get a pulltab and a gold item -- place them about 3 feet apart on a metal free bit of ground -- start at "0" discrimation wave it over the tab --beep -beep slowly increase it waving it over t as you increase --when the pull tab no longer picks up --the go to the gold item if it rings up your good to go --you will still find some tabs but less of them --thus making you hunting more productive
however if the gold item does not pick up --very slowly drop down the discrimation level until it does pick up
while you can not totally reduce the aluminum / pulltab tab factor you can cut down on them and still find most gold items as well.
now using the 250 often a crushed beer can or big aluminum item will ring up as a silver dollar or half --- if you get this lift the coil a bit --if its a coin sized item it should "drop out" of detection --but the large beer can type item will stay in due to its larger mass size
on a bounty hunter one needs to understand the metal scale --as one increases the discrimation the metals "fall out" in the following order
--iron --- foil/very small gold-- pulltabs & small aluminum / small gold --- nickles / bigger gold rings --- zinc cents / indain head cents --- copper cents / clad dimes --- clad quarters /large copper cents --- silver dimes -- quarters --halves -- dollars --the higher you go discrimation wize the more selective you machine becomes --and the less signals you'll get
same goes for the ace 250 --it has "notchible" ranges --
iron ---
foil/tiny gold --
pulltabs /small gold --
nickles / big gold ---
cent /zincs and indain heads ---
dime pre 82 copper cents / clad and silver dimes
quarters clad and silver
halves clad and silver and
dollars silver / big aluminum (like beer and soda cans)
