Go Up Go Down

Hey, I'm new to the website and somewhat to metal detecting. I've used my dad's metal detector before- a White's 5900 Pro?- and I am ver interested in getting a metal detector of my own. My max budget is 200 bucks, and I'm looking for something reliable, user friendly, and that can detect deep. I plan on mainly going to beaches and parks. Unfortunately, Oregon is always rainy, so I plan on getting a cover or something to protect the control box. I've never used more than one detector, so I dont have a good idea of the quality of other brands- Bounty Hunter, MineLab, and so on. I've really only looked at Bounty Hunter, because the price range fits me. Any suggestions would be great, Thanks!

For the money range you are in... Tesoro Compadre or scrape a few more bux together for a Tesoro uMax. I have a Bounty Hunter I got for $179, compared to my Tesoro, its a bit of a toy.

Tesoro = deep

Dido...Tesoro makes a big bang for  the buck. If  you know your detectors you might be able to pick up a higher dollar detector on ebay. I KNOW Tesoro's prices are set in gold (for new ones) but once in-awhile someone has just purchased a Tesoro and found no time to use it so they offer it only a few hours used  for much less $$$. I did it, you can too!

After looking at a few reviews, I'm pretty set on a Tesoro now-much simpler than my dad's Whites.

Thats the Idea Jo you cant go wrong there , and to find treasure the important bit is to wave your coil
over it before anyone else, Keep going ya on the right track, and if you can find a second hand higher priced
machine for the right money then your home and dry, Good luck

and remember we all will help if we can

I plan on going to the beach alot, and will the sand/salt screw with the Tesoro Compadre? Alot people say that its not meant for the beach but rather parks and such.

i am biased cause i have only used a couple but i love my FISHER F2  got it w/2 coils  (the 4 inch is deadly in parks and trashy areas ) and a 8 inch  along with a pinpointer probe 5 yr warranty  for $215  . points to consider are soil type were your goin and features you want  i wanted a depth indicator (its right on give or take a little ) and built in and  pin point option (very good as well)  the f2 had all 3 and  the 5 yr waranty leaned me that way cause i am green at detecting . it has decent depth i have found targets at close to 11 inches w/4 inch havent used the 8 much cause i have done so well with the 4    there are alot of good machines out there and its tough to decide   with a limited budget I know  i looked for months  so hang in there what ever you find i hope its a good machine alot of the tip/tricks the kind folks in here share have helped me become a better hunter so dont be afraid to ask questions .what ever you get they can help you get the most out of it . just from what i looked at i think the GARRET ACE 250  would have been my second choice in that price range based on features  thats just me and i cant say one is better than any cause havent used others  and you might find a higher end machine used  thats just what you want also.  josey

Ive been looking around at alot of metal detectors- The Tesoro Compadre is really appealing to me, but I saw a review that said its not good for the beach  Undecided
Both the Garrett ACE 250 and the Fisher F2 also apeal to me, since they have depth and pinpointing capabilities.
The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV's price is very attractive, but some people say that they are "toys".
Anyways, Im stuck inbetween these choices, so if someone could gimme some input on this that'd be great! Smiley
