These type of machines, that are sold in Wall Mart, are in a sence good to learn with.
They work to a certain degree in that they do detect metals.
You will find that it has it's limitations just as any of them do.
The bounty hunter series machines if you are seeking in school/park grounds
you will find that it's depth and width of field is limited to soil conditions.
Swing slowly as close to the ground as you dare and over lap your search area helps a lot.
Also coins on their edge are difficult to pick up without some practice.
(I have two BH's, both accquired in garage sales.)
I would not recommend using it in a competion hunt you may be dissapointed
with the results when you see what the others come out with.
I let my nephews children use mine when they go out with me.
I swing a Troy, Fisher and one of two Garretts I own.
The bounty hunters are light and will not tire you out as quickly as some of the
heavier more expensive machines.
Create you a "known field" (clear out all metallic items) to practice in.
Place known targets in different positions and depths till you can get a "feel" for your machine.
Hint: If there are schools or parks, in your area, where the dominant pupils
or visitors are hispanic they are most likely to have gold in the vicinity.
I find this to be the case here in the area where I live.
Beaches stay away till the people leave!
