Does anyone know if the national park service allows metal detecting inside of park boundries? I live near the new river gorge national park and it has alot off old mining and timber towns in its boundries.

As a whole, National Parks are a NO NO!

However all have different folks running the local show.

Google the Parks name and Rules and Regulations.

 Great

The only way you are going to legally detect a National Park in the United States is if you are doing as part of one of their official archeological digs.   If that happens, you'll get the thrill of the hunt, and might be in on the actual recovery (or they might just have you mark targets and have someone "trained" dig them).  Either way they won't be going into your collection.  Depending on the park, the official digs can either be extremely rare, or a major part of the operation.
