Hi all,

I've done some reading about detecting and would like to get a lightweight detector so when I start traveling in my restored Airstream Trailer next year I have something fun to do. I'm female and disabled, so I'm looking for something lightweight. I imagine myself doing more land hunting than water. I wondered if there were any specific brand recommendations others would give so I can narrow my search. Thanks!

Hello and welcome . If you are looking for something nice and light i would suggest getting either  the garrett ace 150 or the 250 both are very light machines and very good quality for the price. Hope this helps and looking forward to hearing of your finds . Malc.

I agree. The Garrett machines are quite good but the lightest machine I know of is the Tesoro Compadre and it is one screaming machine. Not fancy at all but does the job quite well.

I agree the Ace 250 would make a good fit.Good all around machine. Look on Kellyco.com for a good deal. If you got some extra dough to spend consider a Garret Propointer. This will help locate the target once you pinpoint it and reduce hole size along with the time spent on your knees digging. Have fun! Wink

Thanks for the ideas. I've been looking around craigslist and ebay, hoping to pick up something at a very reasonable price since I don't know how much I will be able to do the activity (I have limited walking, bending, digging, capabilities, but I keep keepin' on, you know?) It sounds like such a fun thing and since I'm going to probably be visiting a lot of camping grounds, this sounds like a prime place to hunt.

I will look and see if any of these  brands are available in the next few months. Since it will be snowing where I am now soon, that will give me something to look forward to in the spring.

Someone on the Kelly site said this brand was lightweight, do you think this is a good buy for me?

Hi Goobygirl, i use the garrett ace 250 a great machine and very light and easy to use it is only 1.2kg in weight and the Tesoro Compadre as golddigger says is slightly lighter at 1.1 kg. i think the garrett has more features to help you pinpoint targets easier.
hope this helps and good hunting
Simon

Goobygirl, the Bounty Hunter models you are looking at are both very light and very capable. You can't really beat the price either.

Thanks for the quick replies. I told hubby of my latest idea and he was a downer. Sad He says why wouldn't the places I want to hunt have already been hunted? And I quickly retorted, "And no one throws out good stuff in the garbage either, right?" That shut him up because I have pulled plenty of things from the curb and our former condo dumpster that were BRAND NEW, into the $1000s of dollars in total I've scavenged.

I told him if we got to campgrounds, there's always new people and not someone searching every day.

Also, I read the book Urban Treasure Hunter and this guy MD in NYC and regularly finds quality stuff.

I'll just have to convince him with proof. And keep the money and treasures for myself! LOL Mad

Goobygirl, even the most experienced treasure hunter will never believe a site is "hunted out." We all know that a few millimeters of gap in your coil pattern can cause you to miss an object. I often show newbies how much they miss by taking them to my favorite hunting spot and hunting right behind them. Stuff I missed the last time and stuff they missed all wind up in my finds bag. It's a real convincing argument for not passing a place by that has seen activity.

Ask anyone else here about that.

Goobygirl, as golddigger said you just never know unless you try and i think you are mentally there just go and get a detector and start finding that treasure...
and when hubby starts to feel left out just tell him he can buy his own detector LOL Wink
