Hi to all, I'm a new user on this site and I wanted to ask if anyone has any suggestions on where to look with my metal detector. I live in Southern Mississippi, On a 13 acer farm. The farm has been in the family for 100's of years.  My great grandpa was a carpenter, So he built the house, barns, sheds, and shop.  Please reply. And thanks alot.  Detecting

Good suggestions, and when you get bored with that, just go all over the property, digging  EVERYTHING, Missippi, has a good background, must be some real good stuff there. Wise

If you can figure out where the outhouse and the clothesline were, those are two more good places to look (as well as the path between the outhouse and the other buildings).   The outhouse would actually be a good place to do some screening since old bottles and other fragile items often got thrown or dropped down the hole (and for various reasons, intact bottles frequently survive).

Also check around the mail box out near the road. People used to leave coins for the postman to pay postage on out going mail. Indian head pennys and such.

Yes, focus on the largest/oldest trees on the property! You're really lucky to live in an area where not only is the land owned by people for a long time, but you have access to a really large amount of property too! My house is in a suburb, and our property is only about 1/2 acre. I've only scanned a few feet of it, I got a ham radio antenna in the back yard, so much of it is off-limits because I have some wires running a few inches below the ground. Other places for me to look are pretty scarce and I'm not extroverted enough to go asking people to metal detect their property.
Good luck to you in your search! Just what you described, that can last you for months! Please post pictures of your finds too on the forum.

If it is still the old house check outside under the kitchen window. Alot of houses had the sink facing the window and women used to take off their rings and put them on the window sill.....plop they fall outside....good luck
