Hi, I'm new to this hobby, and new to this forum, so please bare with me. I haven't even bought a MD yet, and I'm still kicking around building my own. That just sounds like fun. Not knowing anything about these things. What would be a good beginning MD? Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Hello and Welcome ! The most affordable beginner machines are the Garret Ace 150 and Fisher F2. If you can afford I woudl recommend buying a preowned Tesoro Lobo Supertraq on eBay at aroudn USD 400.00

Don't hestitate to ask if you have any questions and we will be happy to help.

Best wishes,

Christian

Hello. Garrett, Whites, Tesoro, All have good beginning detectors. You could try this website:

These guys are pretty serious about their detecting and from what I have seen on their website, they are doing as close as you can get to real world tests. The detector that I got when I got back into detecting was a Tesoro Compadre. About 150-170 dollars now. I still have mine and it performs rather well in playgrounds, parks and schoolyards. Also, you should check out some of the books put out by RAM publications. They are a Garrett concern, but a lot of the techniques that are discussed in those books apply to almost all detectors. Hope this helps. Good luck and I hope to see some of your finds on this website soon.
