Have you hunted your own back yard?

If so, you can follow Goldigger1950's advice and go out your front door.  Hunt your front yard when you get to the sidewalk turn either right or left and the strip between sidewalk and the street.  When you get to the corner keep going and pick up on the next strip.

Basically,  you want any place that you can find that you can get permission to hunt where people would have gathered and lost things.

If you take the time to read the previous posts on this beginners board and to look at some of the posts in other areas (including the one for your home state or country), you should come up with LOTS of ideas about where to hunt and what to hunt for.

Unless you are content to hunt parks for lost modern coinage, this hobby takes patience and research.

 Welcome to the forum
These guys on here are a very helpful bunch, just ask and you shall receive  Teach
All the suggestion above covers just about all the places one could hunt.
If you don't really care of what you find,as said before your yard is a great place to start out and get use to your machine. you WILL find something in your yard "guaranteed" I also started out this way and found this to be a confidence builder in myself and also with my machine.
If you know of some land that your allowed to hunt, study the lay of the land.Look it over real good before jumping in.Ask yourself what was this land used for?a farm or farmland,a homestead ? If wooded, is the woods full of tall timber ? or is it small trees and brush? If I see a big tree out in the open all by itself you can bet I'll be over there detecting at the base of it,also go right up to the trunk and between the exposed roots, tilt your coil towards the tree when detecting close to the base of tree.I have found some finds that way.
Hey man just get out there and have fun with it,if it feels like work then your doing it all wrong Smiley If you don't find anything one day" been there" try, try, try again...
I wish you luck  Detecting

Welcome from Utah! Guys - sounds like this is your first (or nearly first) post on the forum!  Grin
Please take a quick minute to go to the 'new user introduction' thread and post a quick hello on there with where you're from, what metal detector you use, and what you're interested in hunting.
Great to have you on board!
There's LOTS to read on here, so don't be shy to ask questions.  Smiley
