Ours is the best! That is what I hear from every metal detector sales person as I search for the right machine for me. The truth is, most of the sales people I have spoken with don't really listen to my needs, they just want too sell me what they have on hand, or they do not have the knowledge of the equipment they sell. Believe me, that after researching detectors, I have found that there are more makes, models, and options available and I am more confused than ever. I need a detector that will work up north for coins and such, and be able too use it I the mineralized soils of the desert S.W. for prospecting nuggets. Everyone tells me that I will have to buy two different machines. I would rather buy just one good detector and be done with it. t-bonetom

Hunting coins a stuff some machines are better at.

Hunting Gold Nuggets, your looking at a different beast.

In the VLF mode for Gold your wanting some machine that is above 10 Khz or more to find the smaller goodies. You sacrifice depth for the smaller gold.

In the coin world people like the depth provided by machine running  5 or 6 Khz or so.

If you can handle digging almost everything, then the PI is a machine that could find you both.

PI machines do NOT discriminate so well.

If your hunting Gold , you would not want to use any a all.

If your hunting Coins you can knock out some Iron stuff at the cost of Gold.

There is no perfect machine.

Your going to have to compromise on something.

If your after the bells and whistles , your after a VLF machine

If your after the Deep Gold, Your after a PI.

Tesero makes a fare compromise for not deep gold and Kicks but one coins and jewelry.

I will not recommend any one machine to anyone but if I wanted the one machine that's the beast.

Better Yet would be the Discovery Treasure Baron by Mr Pyne.

Some Reading for you.

As was well stated above, there is no "do everything" detector.  In my mind, one of the older manually adjusted detectors comes closest to that ideal.  I'm most familiar with Garrett machines thanks to having owned many over the years.  The old Master Hunter units allow the operator to manually ground balance for local conditions.  Then you can choose between the VLF mode for prospecting or relic hunting and the TR mode for coinshooting.  You set the discrimination to "zero" for one and the minimum needed for the other.  My favorite machine is a little newer.  It's a Garrett Grand Master Hunter CX II that does everything I want to do.  I picked it up for a lot less than the cost of a new machine.
