Welcome to these forums.

Your questions are both something that all new users wonder about. Yes, a metal detector will find gold and silver. They are metal, after all. Some do it better than others. Differentiating gold and silver is possible but with limits. All you can really hope for is a general likelihood that the item is gold or silver. The machine can be wrong. In fact, it often is. Even the best machines cannot be 100% certain of the target composition.

There are several projects here to build once you get that 5th post and can download them. There are also lots of very active discussions going on here that revolve around projects that users are working on so look around on the forums and see if you can find them.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Read some of the comments on each. The forum is full of them. Each has its own charm, problems and comments. Just do a search for each one as you look it over. The answer you seek is in the comments already here.

I'm also new here and to THunting. I think I've found the right forum. Just wanted to ask Is anyone using a Fisher 1212 x. I know it's entry level, but what I've read is very impressive.

Thanks
