Soda cans register as solid hits - coins.  I've noticed that with my Whites M6, I'll get a good solid hit with a reading of 76 or 77, it doesn't chirp etc, and it turns out to be a buried aluminum soda can.  I guess i'll just have to get more pactive listening to subtle differences in sounds.

Greg

White's Prizm II

Hello Greg, I have a White's Prizm II. Soda cans read a 50 cent pc for me. The further I dig the signal changes, to quarter, then 50cent, then to penny, then back to quarter. When it bounces, it's usually aluminum for me.

The only thing that will ring up right on a Prizm is a quarter.

What the heck, cans are scrapping out at about a cent a piece. Take the $ and run.

well keep em as scrap aluminum if you want to -- cuz money is money afterall -- now here a old timers trick -- coins being small in overall size will drop out ( not be detected ) if one raises ones coil a fair bit --however the can being a much larger item will still "ring" up.  Cheesy

its the conductivity issue -- several types pf metals and metal items have very similar "electrical conductivity" values --which is how a machine sorts out what it thinks its "found" by the amount disturbance  the metal found causes to its electrical feild generated under its coil . -- its the machines "best guess" based upon what info it recieves--depth is also based upon a coin sized object and is also a "best guess" process. --- some machines are "better guessers" than others ( normally the higher end type)--mainly due to having more slots or numbers to better filter the finds into --the M6 is a fine machine and once you've learned it -- you should do well. learn to listen carefully and use the sounds along with the display to get best results.

White's Prizm II

Actually, my Prizm II is pretty accurate. It is excellent when signaling coins, pennies are dead on, as well as nickels. You have to watch the nickel reading though, if it bounces to pop tab, it's a tab. The other exception is if it reads a 50 cent pc and you dig up a large cent, you know it signaled the size.

It's all in knowing how to read your machine. Grin

I never trust what the reading is.  I'm one of those dig 'em all types.  And if I don't dig something that displays as trash, I'm afraid I'll miss that ring that just happens to be laying an inch below the soda can! Wink

You never know!  So I dig all beeps, remove the trash and put it in a small trash bag I carry with me (because if I ever return to that site again, I don't want to be digging up the very same garbage I did the last time!), and scan the hole again to check for additional targets.
