First of all, Welcome from Perth!

The Compadre is a fabulous machine, simple and light weight. It's a motion type of detector which means when you stop moving over a target, it nulls and goes silent. You have to keep it moving ever so slightly when you are locating and pinpointing a target. The battery level indicator sounding lies a bit. Change them often. Mine last about 6 hours in total before they start getting too weak to perform even though the power up cycle says they're still good.

Pinpointing is in the center of the coil so put a fluorescent dot in the very middle of the coil. Stare at it when you pinpoint a target so that when you move away, the retinal image is ghosted over your target. Use no discrimination. Dig every target. The discrimination circuit will eliminate some valuable items which look like pull tabs to the machine. Swing slow and low to the ground for best results.

Please turn off your caps lock and use proper punctuation to relieve the stress on the eyes of anyone reading your posts.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I am also the happy owner of a Compadre with a 8" donut coil.

That thing found me more than 3.000 coins  last year.

Tip : if you hear a chirp, just go back slowly over the place...Oftren you will then get a good two way signal and a target of course.

[detecting]try a few different targets under the coil to set your best position for everyday hunting. If you get a large coin sized piece of foil and run this past the coil turning the knob until it rejects this you will find this is probably a good setting to use. I have marked this position on my detector with a marker pen. the setting is just above iron reject but slightly below foil. after i set this position I run various small and large coins as well as items of jewellery over the coil to make sure it is not rejecting those. dont use it in the pultab reject setting or you will lose some  coins and jewellery. as an everyday hunting setting I find my little marker a good guide to stick at.
