Go Up Go Down

Hi, I'm hitting the beach tomorrow with my new metal detector and I expect to find a bucket-load of pull tabs, and (hopefully) coins and jewelry. I'm thinking coins will be easy enough to identify but what about jewelry? Anybody have any advice on discerning quality jewelry from junk? Do I need a jeweler's loop? Are there any markings to look for and can those markings be trusted?
Thanks in advance...any feedback is appreciated!!

Most gold will be marked 10k 14k or 18k
Silver will have the marks 925 or sterling silver
Gold filled will be marked 10-14 k GF
Some gold plated jewelry is plated over silver so it has a good scrape value

Most marks can be seen with the eye but a 10x loupe or  magnifying glass is handy

Antique's and relics  I sell through  my wife's antique shop, along with some gold and silver jewelry. High price jewelry I sell by commission through several local jewelers who I also sell scrape gold and silver to.
I have sold a few rings on Ebay but is a pain to sell a $1000 there

Funny how I always seem to find those beer/pop tabs all over Michigan parks! Must be a common thing? Have yet to find any Canada coins since our state is next door to Canada. Not to mention Canada uses metal in their coins!

Well as a Canadian that crosses over to Port Huron often. I can tell you that we Canucks change our money over to USD at our banks or at the bridge before crossing over.So we use your American money in the States. Most businesses State side don't take Canadian money. But if it is Canadian money you want I will sell every Canadian loony and Tooney I can get my hands on for say $10.00 American each Grin  Kidding of course    Cheers   Kevin

If you want Candian coins, come to Arizona or any of the other winter havens frequented by Canadians and northern US retirees.

It's a pain but the old saying, NO PAIN< NO GAIN!!!!
