Welcome from Australia!

I no longer dive but still snorkel and wade in the water a lot. When I was diving, I built my own underwater machine which was encased in a waterproof flashlight housing (one of the large ones that took a 6 volt lantern battery). With that much air around my electronics, it was no surprise that it wanted to be more of a buoy than a detector. My solution was to fill the inside with plastic Zip-Loc(tm) baggies full of fine sand which fit between the board and the case. This changed both the specific gravity of the entire unit and gave a bit of weight to the machine. Hardly noticeable in the water. The machine was much more relaxing to use since I didn't have to fight it constantly to keep it to hand.

I don't know if you have access to that portion of the Fisher to try that solution. Someone here built a magnetometer for underwater use and filled the case with high density moly type axle grease. It kept the issue of pressure from depth being a problem and also compensated for the buoyancy issue. He had movable fins on that baby and a camera in the nosecone. I'm not sure if he actually posted detailed information about the project here or just via e-mail.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
