Yes , a used Minelab Sovereign Elite with the Target ID Meter are great machines if you can find them for sale now . Expensive on E-Bay when they are posted . If you can find one on craigslist.org in your area they are usually at a fair price .

Great question. I am totally confused by all the different machines. Don't know what to start with. The answers you got were very helpful.

Shocked Go with the Whites. I own A Garrett GTI 2500 a Whites TDI, couple of bounty hunters, minelab xterra 70 and two fishers coinstrike and a goldstrike, I am also am an  Electronics Technician, the Whites is by far the best dtector to purchase you will be very happy with it and look at all the reviews on Whites there ratings are very high, I like my Whites better than all of my other detectors and there service is excellent. Wise
Wise I see some people are advocating the minelab products the xterra depth is not the best , garrett has had some real problems with quality control, Whites has been in business longer than anyone else except for Fisher, you might want to look into a used Teknetics T2, but the Whites is still your best bet!! goodness me!
I too am a beginner looking for a cheaper but good MD for beach and land use...
I thought the Fisher F5 seemed a good bet.
What do you more experienced hunters think?

Hello Craig, I just bought a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505, after looking at all (at least all I could stand) that was available in my price range. A buddy of mine said I would be satisfied.Should have it Monday. Are you familiar with this one?
